Anti-Virus
Software
Software written especially to (hopefully)
block and destroy computer viruses. Examples are VET, Norton Anti-Virus,
Virus Buster. It important to keep your anti-virus up-to-date and run
regularly virus scans.
Application
A software program such as Microsoft Word,
Excel, PracSoft, Medical Director. Another name for software program.
Usually activated by double-left-click on an icon or going through
"Start" - "Programs".
Association
File association that is; not the mysterious
secret society of buffalo hunters. The relationship between a file and a
program. For example, all files ending with .xls (e.g. timesheet.xls) are associated with
Microsoft Excel and are Excel Spreadsheets. All .doc files on a computer
(e.g. letter.doc) may be Microsoft Word documents.
Autoexec.bat
A "batch" file that starts every
time Microsoft Windows starts up. Autoexec.bat starts other small
programs that may be need to run things like the CD drive.
