The process of re-organising and optimising
file storage on a hard disk drive. It moves the data together as closely
as possible. Regular defragmentation will ensure that fastest possible
speed out of the computer. |
| Desktop Computer |
A computer that sits on the desk. |
| Disk Defragmenter |
A software utility that does the disk
defragmentation process. Activated via either "Start" -
"Programs" - "Accessories" - "System
Tools" - "Disk Defragmenter" or via the hard disk drive
properties.

A general name for any piece of hardware. |
| Device Driver |
A software program that enables the device
- hardware - to communicate and work with other pits of the computer.
Often referred to as just a "Driver" |
| Document |
A self contained piece of work created with
a software program that is saved and given a unique filename by which it
can be identified and retrieved. A document is a data file. Examples are
Microsoft Word documents or a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. |

The process of transmitting information or
a file from one computer to another computer. For example, downloading a
game from the Internet. |

| Drive Mapping |
Assigning a drive letter to a drive or a
folder on a different computer to appear as a "virtual" or
real drive on your computer. |

A software program that enables the device
- hardware - to communicate and work with other pits of the computer.
Often referred to as a "Device Driver". |

Digital Versatile Disk.
A disk that looks like a CD, but can hold up to 17 GB of data. Great for
movies etc. |
