| RAID |
Redundant Array of Inexpensive
Disks. A method of using two or more disks to constantly mirror
or store your data in such a way that if one disk fails, all is not
lost. There are different types of RAID, ranging from RAID1 (One disk mirrored
onto another) through to RAID5 (Information spread across a number of
disks, as pictured:)

| RAM |
Random Access Memory.
Volatile memory; memory that is lost when the computer is turned off.
RAM is based on semi-conductor circuitry and is accessed by other parts
of the computer. The amount of memory a computer has is measured in
megabytes (MBs) or gigabytes (GBs). The more RAM you have, generally the
faster you computer will run and more programs that can be ran at the
same time. RAM is usually removable and therefore usually can be
upgraded, although a number of technical restrictions may apply.

A text file,
usually named readme.txt that contains information that a user may need
when using or installing a program. |
| Real Time Clock |
Independent
circuit within the computer's mainboard to keep track of time and date.
Also know as "The Clock". |
| Re-boot |
Re-start the
computer. |
| Remote |
A computer or
other device that is accessed through a network, the Internet or a
modem. |
| Remote Control
Software |
Software that
allows access to a remote computer. Examples include Symantec
PCAnywhere, Laplink, Windows Messenger (XP Only). |
| Resolution |
The sharpness of
an image. The higher the resolution, the sharper the picture will be.
Measured in DPI - dots per inch. |
| ROM |
Read Only
Memory. Memory that can be read but not changed. |
| Router |
A hardware device
that connects your network to the Internet through either broadband
(ADSL or Cable) or a dial-up connection. Routers sold be Landau are
either D-Link, Dynalink or Netgear brands and come with a one-year manufacturer's
warranty. |
