I have heard that leaving on the Preview Pane helps activate viruses? Is this so and how do I turn it off?

Yes, leaving the Preview Pane on can activate certain types of viruses embedded with an E-mail. As the preview pane actually opens the e-mail, any viruses embedded in the e-mail can be started before you have a chance to delete the e-mail.

Preview Pane turned on. Virus embedded in e-mail can be activated before e-mail deleted.
P Preview Pane turned off. Suspect e-mail can be deleted without opening in preview pane.

To turn of the preview pane, in turn, single-left-click on "View" - "Layout". Untick the "Show preview pane" option.

I can not open attachments in Outlook Express?

This is a setting in OE that can be adjusted in "Tools" - "Options" - "Security". Be aware that this is not a bug, this setting is by design and that you are lowering your security by making this change.

All other OE issues are dealt with only by telephone/remote support or an on-site visit. Call or e-mail karen@landau.com.au for further support (standard rates apply).
